beannie epitomises everything i love about wellington brunch spots. super friendly, casual and unique. great service with a smile, awesome coffee and a menu full of the usual favourites; eggs benedict, mince on toast, creamy mushrooms etc.
i didn't know what i fancied and after much indecision, asked the helpful lady there if i could just construct my own from the extras & sides. the answer was a resounding and enthusiastic 'yes absolutely!' - now i've asked this question at many melbourne establishments and so many times, there is a lack of flexibility or change to existing items. i love in wellington and specifically beannie, they are happy for you to eat whatever you like. how it should be.
i selected the potato hash cakes, creamy mushrooms, a poached egg, wilted spinach and black pudding. the bp was flavoursome, the potato cakes were crisp and delicious and the mushrooms were creamy and complemented everything else. i finished it off with lashings of rocket fuel sauce - i love when i find this condiment in cafes, such a great touch.
with coffee so good that i ordered a second, beannie for me is a relatively cheap, cheerful and delicious option out of the city in petone. i head back every time.
