the service was good (thus i gave the stars for service) , but the food wasn't really delicious or italian. i guess i just got fooled again by the reviews. nevertheless, it's cheap, but i don't think it equates to delicious, is it?
i was awed to see that the entrees include soup, garlic bread, entree and cappuccino, and most unbelievably, red/white wine with the entrees. the entrees were just at the maximum $40 usd. it was a really good deal, but the taste is a different story. the place was very dark, so bring your reading glasses if required.
wine: they immediately serve two 1 l karate of wine at your table when you sit down - one red, one white. i don't quite understand how they figure 2 people can finish 2 l of wine!!!! however, there is no free lunch in this world. the quality of the wine is not great. hey, it's free. i couldn't complain.
soup: minestrone - it's decent.
garlic bread: ok only, not toasted thoroughly, and not much garlic flavour.
steak caruso: meh! i don't really know if it's italian. if i close my eyes to taste it, i would have thought it's chinese stir fry. yes, the stir fry was served on a bed of plain penne, but i don't think it makes it italian the dish didn't impress me. btw, it wasn't steak. it was just cubes of beef which the texture was funny.
battista style cioppino: i should be alarmed when i saw the words "battista style". it wasn't ciopiino at all. the marinara sauce had no depth to it. the sauce lacked the simmering big time. it's one of the three most expensive entrees in the menu ($40usd). i hope they could charge more but make it more delicious.
cappuccino: hell, it ain't cappuccino at all. at most, it's a wishy-washy hot chocolate with a dollop of whipped cream. if you have drank enough "all your can drink" wine, i don't think you would mind or notice! to me, hell, it was still aweful!!!
it's definitely a cheap place to eat (considering how much sides you are getting), but the taste isn't fine at all.
