best restaurant in canton. there is no surprise that this restaurant has a 100% liked rating!!!

my husband and i try and make a trip down to downtown canton whenever possible and always eat at basil. the service is out of this world, and the bartenders are great. i love that it's family run business and that they really care about the quality of the food they're serving. the owner is always very friendly and eager to chat, and the atmosphere is perfect.

the food? don't get me started. everything from the curry to the sushi is perfection.

what a pleasant surprise! the inside is lovely with tall ceilings with metal engraved ceiling tiles. clean bathrooms – a definite plus. service was fast and efficient although the server was difficult to understand due to his accent. the crab rangoon was creamy and had a sufficient amount of crab. the tuna tataki was tender and tasty. there was no fishy aroma. the dressing was a light soy with cucumbers and spiralized radish. the avocado chicken curry was the best curry i've had in a long time. it had fresh, crisp green beans, red peppers, onions and large half moons of perfectly textured avocado. there were tender slices of white meat chicken all served in an unusual house curry blend that was delicious. the dish was then topped off with ground peanuts. i wish there were more asian restaurants like this in other cities!

went here for lunch during the week with my sister who had been here before and liked it. it was after the lunch rush, about 2:00, and the restaurant was nearly empty except for maybe 3 tables. i ordered the yellow curry with chicken which on the menu is described as having "potatoes, green beans, bell peppers, peas, and carrots". i chose this over the avocado curry because that had sautéed onions which i dislike. when my entree arrived i was immediately disappointed just looking at it: there were a few french-cut (read: canned) green beans, some potatoes, zero peas, zero bell peppers, zero carrots, and in their place? sautéed onions and bamboo shoots :( the chicken was also a smidge pink still when i bit into it. the actual curry was good so at least i didnt leave still starving. sorely disappointed in this place though. if my sister wanted to go again i would have to pass.

a tad disappointing. we went here with a large group after hearing many positive reviews from friends, family and urbanspoon. a thai restaurant is a welcome addition to downtown canton. it is mostly street parking in the area. the restaurant was busy but we squeezed in. it is decorated nicely and the staff were prompt and friendly. our table ordered 2 or 3 appetizers which were not particularly good. one was some type of chicken dish and the other was a spicy eggplant dish. we had around 8 entrees at our table and every single person said the same thing and that was that our meals just weren't that good. none of us would order the same thing again, which is not a good sign for this place. i had a thai dish called pataya. the sauce was not good and i could not eat very much of it. the pad thai was average. i don't recall the other dishes at the table, but like i said, not one of us was impressed. maybe we hit them on a bad night since we had heard so many good things. i don't think i will ever go back, but if i do, we will definitely look for new entrees and appetizers. this building has changed hands many times over the years, and i fear that basil will have the same fate if they don't make some improvements to their cooking.

basil’s volcano roll, part of the “house rolls” sushi menu is a classic california roll—cucumber, crab and avocado—covered with sweet scallops and topped with (mildly) spicy mayo. what makes this roll special is its preparation: the entire dish is flash-broiled under an open flame and delivered to the table warm and gently browned.

spot on. basil is one of my regular stops. it's become my all purpose restaurant. meeting clients or work associates for lunch, a quiet solo dinner at the bar or a night out with my wife- it all works. wholesome food. good service. great cocktails. they've produced a recipe for success in a location that has failed other less savvy operators. the intersection of value and quality is perfectly struck. i look for great things from tappas 218 - their new sister venture at the fedeli's. perhaps a small chain of eateries in downtown where others could not quite execute is where this developing restaurant group is headed.

my husband and i love this place! tony is a great attentive owner who is always attending to our needs... even tho there are never any! great pho, specials, sushi, saki, and noodles all for a better price and service than "traditional" japanese. this is true true food for a great value. enjoy!

this is the only establishment in canton that stretches between thai, asian and vietnamese and mingles them all together in a casual upscale atmosphere. if you are looking for unique taste that seems only can be found in major cities, this is the place for for you. grab a hot saki, a cool sapporo beer and a bowl of pho and you will be extremely happy!

i really liked the food! happy it's downtown! wish they had a happy hour for the amazing martinis they have. i'm confused about the bill process. they give you the bill and you must add tip on the first bill before they run your transaction. the bill was given to me but when i got it back the waitress added 2more dollars for herself. confused by this.

went to basil this evening with my husband. the staff was polite and knowledgeable. we had the dumpling appetizer they were well seasoned and homemade! our meals were peanut curry with chicken and mussaman curry with beef. they had great thai flavor and balance of sweet and spicy. i also had a tasty red dragon martini and my hubby had a hot saki which he liked very much. will be back! yum!

nice atmosphere and ok food. first off, the drinks and sushi were amazing! very nice presentation of the place and the food. however, the food isn't that great. i had the garlic chicken dinner and it tasted like something you would get from delivery chinese takeout. husband had a steak dish that was very bland and well done is only option.

if you wanna get fun drinks and sushi, super fun! but not gourmet meals by any means.
