a first for everything.... my hawaiian food experiences are as follows... being forced to try poi (library paste) years ago, and seeing 'plate lunch' offerings on food/travel channel shows--and commenting on how unappetizing it all looked. well, on first taste, it winds up being pretty good to me. you've had this food before. you and your high school/college buddies at 4am after bingeing, and winding up in some random kitchen. all the exotic ingredients are there in the pantry and fridge. rice, brown gravy, eggs, and some protein delivery system (meat, usually burger patty). yup. it's total drunko-stoner food, and i ate every, starchy rice grain bit of it. they also have some very good house-made sauces, and their lava sauce was not too terribly hot, with absolutely great flavor. the two young gals taking care of everything seemed to genuinely enjoy working there, and were very helpful. be advised, it's all served in styrofoam with plastic cutlery, regardless if you dine in. an interesting--and good--new/old dining experience for me in our metro...

this has been one of our best finds. the mac salad with lava saice and territaki chicken are awesome and i don't even like macaroni salad. i've only eaten here twice and everytime i drive by i literally crave this place. on top of that, the friendliness of the staff and the prices cant be beat!

good food, big kahuna portions. it's always great stop in for some island time and hang loose. the teriyaki chicken is tender and good. i like spicy, so i love to add lava and bbq sauce to the rice. the sides of mac or pea salad are good too. the tropical fruit salad is a must if you like dessert. if you dine-in the tables are a litle small for more than two people. so my family usually gets carry out, it is fast, hot, and enough for two meals.

not what it used to be. i lived in hawaii for a year and learned to love kalua pork and mac salad. aloha used to have quality, home made sides, but they have started cutting corners. the side dishes are definitely prefab from resers. i am very sorry that aloha does not serve the food that made me a fan years ago.
