we came here for my birthday last year before the pandemic struck. we ordered the tasting menu and were presented with a series of tasty dishes, with a few of my favourites being the sashimi platter, wagyu tartare, edamame and the chicken. the dessert also added a lovely finishing touch to the whole meal. the food came out quickly so we didn't have to wait between dishes however the waitress seemed to linger around our table (and sometimes would even stare at us while we ate) due to the quiet restaurant (there was only one other table besides us). while i understand that it may be considered good service, it was a little uncomfortable. i recommended my friend to come here for valentine's day this year, however, was disappointed to see that the menu had changed drastically, with the new serving sizes decreasing to half of what is shown in my photos, despite no change in price.

excellent service provided by our waiter. fit out was atmospheric, with the grill at the centre of the action. we ordered a range of the skewers, the tsukune, wagyu and the pork belly were fantastic, charred and flavoursome.

food was good but minus points for awkward seating. our table looks like a makeshift seating arrangement in between other tables even with booking. just because of that dining wasn’t very comfortable

had an amazing dining experience at akaiito for our anniversary.
started with some awesome cocktails. food started on a good note with some oysters and canapés and it keep on getting better with every course.
the service was really good with friendly staff and great chef.

what a great find akaiito proved to be. newly opened we experienced great service and delicious food. we had a few hiccups with the order our dishes were presented, some things forgotten but the way this was handled by the wait staff shows they are committed to making akaiita up there with the best japanese melbourne has to offer.

we started with oysters followed by wagu tartare served with crispy nori that we really enjoyed. sushi (nigiri) was perfect and the quality of the sashimi didn’t go unnoticed.

all items from the robata charcoal grill were so succulent we wanted more of each. we sampled the chicken meatballs & the tooth fish which was exceptional.

finished with the lamb ribs which were sticky and falling of the bone deliciousness but we probably need some steamed rice to help cut the richness.

the lemon soufflé was the perfect finish to a wonderful meal. we will return again very soon.

i came here yesterday for my bday dinner ! have to rate 5 starts because of the great food and super friendly service ! the restaurant decoration is very cool and warming , the beef tartae taco is one of the must try dishes i would recommend , the sashimi was very fresh and tasty ! 😍😍 and the price is also very reasonable compare to other japanese fine dining restaurant ! my table was served by a japanese lady ! she is very friendly and enthusiasm and very polite to every customers ! we really enjoyed everything yestersay from akaiito ! will back here a gain soon . ❤️

i had the omakase dinner last week and we had great dinner here. the staff are friendly and also the chef who cooked the omakase for me. this omakase here is a bit different with usual omakase which usually they serve sushi but they serve yakitori instead. the first food was scampi with ponzu dressing, it was good choice to start, it was fantastic and that made a good first impression though. suprisingly all of the yakitori were so good! i love the sweet potato yakitori the most which i didn’t expect that would be my fav for the yakitori. very impressed with the marron, the octopus, and the last meal like a bento with a5 wagyu and the truffle rice with scallop! last but not least, the dessert was average but it was okay. the price is $115pp which was very reasonable because we didn’t expect the foods will come that much. overall, very good value and experience. every dollar well spent here and we will denitely comeback again and try for the a la carte as well.

excellent service and fantastic food! one of the best places in melbourne. chef is from sydney starting out new business and is a great dude. but best is the food. try it out and you will see.

the food was not fresh at all. the dishes all looked beautiful but the stale seafood left a nasty aftertaste (literally). at the time of booking i was told they cater to pescatarian dietary requirements but all they did was swap the beef with salmon. the accompanied red wine sauce and mushroom did not go well with the salmon at all. you would expect a fine dining restaurant to change the whole dish and not just one ingredient, after all the food is not cheap. further they swapped a marron dish on the menu with bread and did not inform us until we enquired!!! very very disappointing, would not recommend at all.

the food was good, but the service was horrible particularly from the host. she was arrogant, and rude. to top things off, inspite of being vegetarians, she served us prawn gyoza only for her to say "it's not possible". there are better japanese restaurants in melbourne and this sort of behaviour is only going to put everyone off.

it’s a fancy place to have a nice catchup with close friends. the food’s amazing and the waitresses were lovely and professional. it is an expensive place, so i’d skip ordering any expensive drinks if you’re not interested in splurging too much cash after spending a minimum 160 dollars per person. also, they didn’t mention sparking water isn’t free, so i’d just stick to plain water too.

never again! i don’t usually give 1 star but this restaurant i wish i can give zero star. rude unwelcome staff with no service.
kojin menu $145 pp i am expecting some decent food, but turns out way below average food.
burnt fish skin on way overcooked toothfish, i tried to have a little bite on the skin as i thought may be they purposely charred it or maybe it is seaweed, but turns out it was burnt, total burnt, bitterly, uneatable fish skin. that bitterly taste is still in my throat even after hours. so surprised that they charge this money and don’t quality check their dishes.
entrees were served in a rush, but then long long wait for the mains/robatayaki.
well…$145 pp for this food quality and service, never again, there are heaps restaurants around can do better.

great service, we could tell the girls cared very much about our experience. food was top notch we ordered the 12 course set menu.

only problem was despite being first in line and seated 2nd, our dishes came 10 mins later than the 2 neighbouring customers who ordered the same thing which made the sitting a whole long 2 hours.

this does not deserve the high rating it has. the staff were not trained and did not provide the correct utensils for our food. the bathroom floor was sticky and there was minimal lighting. the fish was not fresh and overall the dishes were extremely over priced.
