the waiter there was extremely discriminatory. visited with friends. some of us had veg food and others had non veg. the ones having non veg were served in a proper manner whereas the vegetarians were clearly treated pathetically. smirky faces while serving veg food, uncalled for comments on veg food and no finger bowls for vegetarians were the clear discriminations. to add to that, the veg food quality was way below average.

nothing here is going to taste exactly as you are used to. if this statement excites you, this is the place for you. if it makes you uncomfortable, maybe not.

my first meal here was the trami - a smaller version of the kashmiri wazwan is what i’ve been told. was it good? well, it’s the kind of meal that makes you happy that you’ve eaten it, and then want to tell the whole world about it!

what especially stood out for me was the tabak maaz - steamed mutton that’s shallow fried in pure ghee. this is very different from the masala-heavy mutton dishes that i’ve normally eaten. i don’t know of this is peculiar to this dish / any lamb dish here, but i love how they’ve not removed the fats. it took the overall taste to the next level.

veg-wise i was blown away by the kashmiri saag. and the dum aloo - again very different from what i normally come across. it had a certain sourness and i don’t think much masala was used here again. i saw some people writing bad stuffs about the dum aloo so i would say it’s a function of which camp you’re in when it comes to taste palette.

but no matter what camp you’re in, you’re likely to find the mutton rogan josh and mirchi qurma

we ordered a lamb rogan josh and got it stone hard. on complaining the waiter almost accused us for the wrong order and told us we should have ordered another one he had suggested earlier! anyways the other one we got was perfectly soft and tender , the way it should have been in the first place. service is pathetic and earlier we asked for chowmein which the waiter declined saying it's unavailable. 10mins later it magically appears on our next table!!! poorest experience ever. they charge fine dine with below average food and experience.

this is one of the restaurants i definitely wanted to visit when i had planned my trip to kashmir and it didn't disappoint. i had no experience or a particular dish in mind which i thought i would order right away but the way the waiter presented the wazwan platter contents i had to try it. being a person who eats mutton very occasionally, i was bowled over by richness and the level of authenticity to the kashmiri cuisine. the kashmiri wazwan platter is only served to one individual and cannot be shared but that single platter is sufficient to fill all your taste buds for a long time. special mention to the vegetable salsa provided with the dish. really had a great time.

i had heard much about this place and how i should check it out if i ever travel to srinagar, because of how great they are if you're looking for a good traditional kashmiri restaurant. apparently it's been run for over a century. and to be honest, i'm a food fanatic. it doesn't matter if i'm at laduree in paris or karim's at chandnichowk, i savour the experience equally because of the unique experience they offer. but this place, oh, god, this place. let me begin with how tasteless the mutton was. i was surprised that they haven't even perfected the way they should be cooking mutton. we ordered mutton rogan josh and tabak maaz. i would have gone for wazwan but i wanted to try this place first and see if i should ever return, and i know, i shouldn't. the mutton felt like it was boiled and dipped into a very random gravy and the tabak maaz had honestly no flavour that'l it's supposed to have. it literally felt like a saltless boiled pieces of mutton crisped from the outside. now you can imagine how bad that tastes. i was still ready to let things go and call it a day when the waiter after us having paid an enormous bill for shitty food tbh, kind of started asking for more tip because he wasn't satisfied with the amount we paid. to remind you, we already paid service tax and we wanted to be courteous so we decided to pay him some.
i've travelled around the world and had food in places, but this place is carrying on just in the name of its establishment and it feels like they've given up caring on how food should taste or how customer service works. i believe the waiters need to be trained first in they shouldn't bully a customer into paying them more. it makes the whole experience soiled. i just wanted to get out of this place as soon as i was done with the food because of how the waiter started to kind of act.
please save yourself and don't ruin your meal and your penny and rather go to some better restaurants here. i'm going to to that myself for the rest of my stay.

i have eaten food at ahdoos for over a 100 times. in fact i am a frequent visitor to srinagar & stay in their hotel only for their restaurant :-). the food quality of ahdoos has gone considerably low over last few years & i feel very sad about it. in a very recent visit to ahdoos on may 24 & 25, 2019, we had mirchi korma, rogan josh, haak saag & tabak maaz. mirchi korma was pathetic..inedible..the worst ever i've eaten anywhere. ahdoos's haak saag is a normally a perfect dish but that too wasn't great this time. rogan josh was just ok but not as it use to be. now tabak maaz (fried sheep ribs), i ordered in room service...& all i got were two tiny pieces. i couldn't believe its portion...it was 1/4 of what i generally order. the waiter who brought it also was absolutely shocked. all in all a very bad experience this time.
