the menu at ad hoc changes daily and they serve just one set menu a day. we were pleasantly surprised that there was a rabbit ragout that was available as a side in addition to the preset menu. i like the family style plating and service. we shared the wine pairings as d had to drive. the food was simple, hearty, fresh and extremely well executed. i enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back again.

... one meal is served to the entire crowd, and the menu is constantly changing. they serve everything from memphis style barbecue to veal porterhouse.

the confit duck was to die for, the gravy and the egg working perfectly in sync with the fresh, thick waffles and the savoury brussels sprout and potato hash.

ad hoc is a family style restaurant serving a fixed four course meal that changes daily. it's kind of like the casual, more affordable little sister of french laundry and was originally intended to be a temporary filler while keller developed a different restaurant that was to go in its place (ad hoc means 'for this purpose'). it became so popular that it ended up staying and after meeting many locals and visitors during our trip it became clear that it is a huge napa favorite. our experience was fantastic. the atmosphere was laid back and fun and the service extremely warm leaving us feeling as comfortable as being over a good friends house for dinner. the food was absolutely delicious and quite the deal for a thomas keller meal. we were especially happy that our menu featured just the right amount comfort food that we needed after a whole day of drink

ad hoc is actually a restaurant that was never meant to be. thomas keller and his staff, as the story goes, began serving up seasonal fixed family-style dinners as a temporary endeavor while he planned for the opening of a

i couldn’t resist the prospect of eating fried chicken at thomas keller’s decidedly relaxed restaurant ad hoc, which specializes in comfort food and features a daily changing $45 prix-fixe menu consisting of salad, main course, cheese, and dessert all served family style.

the final vacation post (about 3 weeks after the fact) is here! funny how vacation leads to more work. if you missed it, here were some thoughts after our trip , and here was the write up on chicago eating . i took virtually no notes in sf, so these will

another restaurant i wanted to try while in san francisco was thomas keller's ad hoc. fortunately, ad hoc is in yountville, which is closer to where we were staying. our menu that day (there's only one prixe fix menu available, served family style) was a

don't be chicken, enjoy their breakfast here!. we had the most scrumptious chicken and biscuits for breakfast and those sunday morning cocktails - think of it, a watermelon drink to excite the palette before enjoying a "to die for" breakfast. i remember the days before when this establishment was the "yountville diner" before keller took over the establishment and turned it into ad hoc and we are still thrilled to dine at the same location.

i can’t believe i was actually considering canceling our reservation! i had booked it two months out so we’d have somewhere special yet unpretentious to go for our anniversary, but we were starting to talk ourselves out of driving up to yountville for our

just ok...was expecting more, but for $50.... ...it was good, but not great.

i guess i was expecting more for a thomas keller restaurant, but for a $50 meal it was good. i love the concept of family style 4 course meal in a very casual setting.

service - it was good a friendly, but a little unprofessional. our waitress should be telling us that she is dating one of the chefs.

1st course -salad - amazing!!! fresh, tasty and a perfect dressing.

2nd course - seafood pasta and chicken cutlet. both dishes were bland and devoid of any seasoning.

3rd course - cheese - delicious cows milk cheese with black truffles

4th course - lime custard with whipped cream and shortbread...it was just ok....nothing special.

next time i'll just have to try the french laundry...if i could get a reservation.

perfect restaurant. it has everything a perfect restaurant requires, i can't find much fault in ad hoc. the food was prepared with care, they looked mouthwatering when presented and tasted even more so. the service was great too, friendly to just the right degree and not pretentious at all so i didn't feel awkward. it's a very casual, relaxing place with delicious food to boot.
