when we say “crusty” we mean you will make a mess eating this sandwich. that’s ok, it’s worth it.

while i was in boston last week, i stopped by chinatown for lunch one day. there were a lot of choices for vietnamese food and i was in the mood for a simple tasty banh mi. i wanted to pick up a quick sandwich to go, before my lunch break was over.

although i haven't eaten here, this is always a lunch stop for me. they serve up some of the best boba in chinatown. if you're stopping by, i recommend the vietnamese iced coffee with boba for a tasty pick-me-up.

cheap!. shredded pork banh mi ($3.50): not much meat given. make sure to ask for jalapeños. they don't have sriracha, which makes it a bit dry in some bites. it's still so tasty, and what a deal.
bbq pork banh mi ($3.75): yes! even better.
cash only.

banh mi sandwich at 163. small shop, big sandwiches. fresh...fresh...fresh. the best example of a banh mi / saigon sub in the area. my family and i have ordered the entire menu a few times over since they opened. never have we been let down. family serving families. my only question is how they can offer such quality meals at such a small price? did i say fresh? the owner has told me, when ordering, that the item i ordered was taken off the menu for the day because they could not get the fresh ingredients to make it properly. wow.

i have driven 40 miles, more than once, just to place an order there. yes, it is that good. a bubble tea and a few fresh goodies that they sell, think homemade spring rolls, and my trip is complete. delicious, and i come off as a saint for making the trip.

i have "turned-on" many to this place. i have never had a complaint.

after tasting multiple banh mi places, i think 163 vietnamese sandwich on harrison, has my favorite barbeque beef banh mi. if there are other suggestions, i would welcome them! they serve various cold cut, chicken, vegetarian (soy protein) banh mi. 163 also has bubble teas, fruit shakes (including jackfruit, mango, avocado and other fruits). they also have inexpensive $3-$4 mini rice or noodle plate with various proteins like pork, chicken or barbeque beef. they also sell fried spring rolls. the golden bag filled with a sizable crunchy, savory, tangy and sweet flavored banh mi. 163 is generous with its fillings and you can add spicy chilis if you prefer. the baguette is lightly toasted, daikon, carrot, cilantro, homemade mayonnaise and barbeque beef. the best part is the generous helping of barbeque beef, which is marinated well, juicy and tender. filed under: review tagged: 163 , 163 vietnamese sandwich , banh mi , barbeque , bbq , bbq beef , boston , chinatown , noodle , rice , stn ,
